Sources & data

Every number in Higher or Lower: Real Life comes from a public, checkable source. Nothing was invented. Data snapshot: October 22, 2026. Real-world figures change, and different sources sometimes disagree. Where Wikidata had conflicting values for one item, we left that item out. Dates marked "c." are approximate (the source gives only a decade or century).

"Did you know?" facts: each reveal shows one sentence. It is either quoted word for word from the first paragraph of the item's English Wikipedia article (text is CC BY-SA 4.0, each linked to its article; we only remove text in parentheses) or a line computed from the numbers on this page (such as rankings or USDA macronutrients). A sentence is used only if it doesn't contradict the number in the game. For example, a year in the sentence must match the game's year.

AI disclosure: the game's code, design and question pairings were made with AI help. The facts were pulled by script straight from the datasets below, and a random sample of 120 was re-checked against the live sources.

Privacy: no ads, no analytics, no cookies, no email or password accounts. Stats live only in your browser's local storage. The optional global leaderboard stores only a nickname, daily scores and streaks.
